PaintLasso

A layer-based art app you can paint with in your browser

PaintLasso is a free online drawing app with layers that runs entirely in your browser — no download, no account. Stack as many layers as your work needs, give each its own opacity and blend mode, and keep your linework, color, and shading on separate sheets. Everything composites on the GPU in real time, so changes show up the moment you make them.

Everything a layer should do

Add unlimited layers and arrange them however your piece requires. Each layer carries its own opacity slider and one of 25 blend modes, so you can fade a glaze, multiply shadows, or screen in light without flattening anything underneath. Drag layers up or down to reorder them, duplicate a layer to try a variation, hide or show layers as you compare options, and merge them when you're ready to commit.

Precise control with masks and alpha-lock

Turn on alpha-lock to paint only on a layer's existing pixels — handy for recoloring or shading a shape without spilling over its edges. Use clipping masks to confine a layer's paint to the layer below it, which keeps textures, highlights, and color adjustments tidy and editable. Because compositing happens on the GPU, you see the combined result instantly as you work, even with many layers stacked.

How to use it

  1. Open PaintLasso in your browser. Go to the app — there's nothing to install — and start a new canvas to paint with layers in your browser.
  2. Build up your layers. Add unlimited layers, set each one's opacity and blend mode from the 25 available, and drag to reorder so linework, color, and shading stay separate.
  3. Refine without redoing. Use alpha-lock and clipping masks to paint within existing shapes, then duplicate, hide, show, or merge layers as your free layer-based art app composites everything live on the GPU.

FAQ

Is this online drawing app with layers really free?

Yes. PaintLasso runs in your browser with no download, and the layer system — unlimited layers, blend modes, opacity, masks, and more — is available to use for free.

How many layers can I use?

There's no fixed limit. You can add unlimited layers, and each one has its own opacity and a choice of 25 blend modes. They all composite together on the GPU in real time.

What can I do with each layer?

You can reorder layers by dragging, duplicate them, merge them, and hide or show them. Alpha-lock lets you paint only on existing pixels, and clipping masks confine a layer's paint to the layer beneath it.
